What is it with my kids? They say and do some of the darndest things. My youngest daughter especially. I'm telling you, the girl lives in her own world. And it's a very special and happy world.

The syrup in the bellybutton is the most recent event. It started with breakfast and waffles. She was wearing her bathing suit. She's one of those kids who can't eat anything without wearing it. She gets it from her father. I'm afraid that he is the same way. When she discovered that there was syrup in her bellybutton, you would think that she would instinctively go wash it out. But, oh no! Not this child. It is much funner to show everyone how you can make your bellybutton stick together and almost disappear. Of course, this meant that all the other children had to try do the same thing and when they couldn't, that was when she proudly proclaimed, "I have syrup in my bellybutton and I like it." Yep, she's a special one. Then there's another recent event when the oldest girl was having a sleep-over and the kids were playing charades. Someone had made a guess at what the answer was, the person who was "it" said, "no, but you all just keep hollering out." Well, that was when the cute, young one decided to "holler out". No, not any words, just a nice, cute "aaahhhhh!". It was really quite funny, but I had to explain to her that was not what they meant.

I have a mommy gripe. I'm sure it's not just me. I'm sure that it's every mom. But why? My kids ALWAYS need ME! Dad can be home, standing right in the kitchen and the kids will seek me out and ask me to get them a glass of water. They are helpless and they must also think that their dad is. Here's one of my favorites...."Mom! I'm all done and my butt needs wiped!" When will this stop? OK, I know the answer...when they learn to do it for themselves. And according to the track record, I've got about two more years with the youngest. But why is it that I never hear, "dad, I'm all done and...."?

Marriage

Posted 06-23-2008 at 07:50 PM by weatherologist

Marriage is a sacred thing. A covenant between a man, a woman, and God. It is something to not be taken lightly. I know this all too well because I have been married twice before. My third, current, and last marriage was blessed by the Catholic Church three years after my husband and I took our vows and made our promise to God that we would remain faithful, one to the other, and both to God. Having my marriage blessed in the church is something that I am honored to have done. Having my first two marriages annulled was no easy task. It took a lot of soul searching. A lot of looking into oneself and forgiving. It was hard...realizing the mistakes that I had made. It is sometimes still hard...looking back and wondering to myself that perhaps if I had been a better woman, one further along in my Christian walk, maybe I would have done things differently. But the one thing that is different in this marriage than in my first two is my commitment to God. That is not to say that I did not take my other marriages seriously. Funny thing is, one of the annulment questions was, "did you plan for your marriage to last forever?". I thought that was an odd question. My answer was, "yes". Certainly people don't enter into marriage with the idea that it could be temporary. Right? Well, I suppose in today's world they do. But this marriage was different in the respect that on the day of my wedding, I remember getting on my knees (in private) and committing my marriage to God. This was it. This was final. With God, through God, this marriage would work. And it has. God has blessed me 10-fold. I have beautiful, healthy children. I have a loving and supporting husband. I have a roof over my head and food for my family. And most of all, I have my faith.

Father, God, I thank you for the life that you have given me. May I use it to bring you glory.

Weather, with your marriage on the right foundation, I'm sure it will survive any storm. If only more people would turn their lives and marriages over to God, I believe the divorce rate --- and thereby the reasons for divorce --- would go down dramatically. Blessings to you and yours.

Your words are always so positive. They're a gift. --Which you, in turn, so freely give to others.

--For which this person thanks you.

I feel the exact same way about my marriage to my partner....even though our commitment and our love is not sanctioned by the state; I know that God brought us together and meant for us to be married. I thank God for bringing us together; our union is stronger than any laws passed by any government or state.
