Concrete Jungle - The Pains of Living in the City

Cement, Steel, Pipes, Glass surround me on a daily basis. Every Monday - Friday , I leave my apt. building to enter yet another building to work for "The Man". The rush of every morning to beat the morning traffic lights is my workout. What would be my dream you ask? I would love to wake up to the sound of birds chirping rather than to the construction of yet another over priced condo. When I open my front door I would love to see trees, flowers and grass than see my neighbor's steel apt. door. To smell grass after it rains would be such a delight than to the smell of a hot, sticky and bacteria filled city. My dream is to pick my strawberries in my garden rather to go to a supermarket. Sit on my deck and watch the sun go down and hear the crickets. See my daughter and my dog play in the fields. Stare at my husband profile while he sits next to my on the deck sipping a lemonade. Maybe one day...

I hope your dream comes true Ace..I was so glad to leave the city 30 some years ago and raise my 4 children here in the quietness, and beauty of the mountains..I never looked back, never yearned to go back, never plan to leave..

You sound like a woman that has the will to do something, and so I think that someday you will make it to the country because your determined and you have the will.

ACE I have never lived in a city but you discribe it very well. Cement, Steel and Pipes surrounding you.......
I know its hard to move though. Out in this country place the wages are far below what a city wage is.
Many can not make it after they vacate for more trees and grass. They head back home to the city once more.
Reading your post is making me appreciate what we do have at this moment in time.
I can open my front door to mountains and flowers and fields in view. I can open my backdoor and sit listening to the birds and sounds of the night.........to also swim with no soul around......
Sometimes we don't think about the good things in life.....the rooster in the morning far off, the stillness, the greeness, the majestry of the mountains.......
You have made me stop to listen, and take it all in......
Come visit oneday and have a "lemonade" with us.........
I know someday your wish will come true.

Sounds like the south you are longing for...even in the cities in the south you have some of those things you are looking forward to experiencing. I remember when I first went there for college, how impressed I was at the slower pace, lack of rush hour and occasional scent of flower, etc instead of the what I experienced in Chicago.
