Does everybody REALLY hate Florida?

Posted 01-13-2009 at 10:36 PM by polo89

I was wondering if people really hate Florida. I here alot of Florida hatred on these forums, BUT I have hundreds and maybe thousands of friends and family in Florida and they have hundreds of friends and most of them that I know really love Florida. (By the way they live throughout the South Florida metro area). And most people I talk to down there love it down there and say they wouldnt live anywhere else. So is this Florida hatred just subjective or is it true for most residents?

i Would love to Try some thing New Maybe I Could Consider Florida,Though I've been There twice I Didn't like the weather but I Went there in Winter and it's not that Bad,I Love the beaches in Florida only during the winters,In Ummers it makes no Sense b/c People go to the beach to cool off,It's hard to do that if its Hot and humid,I Came out of the Beach and i Didn't feel Cooled off,In SO Cal it's Hot but Dry and you go to the Beach to cool off b/c the water temps are cooler and You actually feel good b/c your coming from a hot place to cool off and you feel Nice and cooled off.

I don't think most people really hate Florida. If people hated it so much there wouldn't be so many freakin' people moving down here (especially from up north). There are much more hated states out there, like Arizona (and for good reason).

Im just trying to figure out what a blog is. so I opted to view one randomly. But When I lived in N.Tondawanda near niagra falls. Clear Water was the place everyone who was anyone went and in Westford ma they had their little nitch(spot) in Florida. Everyone on the east cost goes to Florida in their winter. Rich Poor, Young and Old. So Florida cant be too bad. I dont like it though too many permits required to do anything on your own land. But looks like everyone else does

Moved to North Florida (Jax) in 1990 -- I liked it.
But your question is about South Florida I take it? I moved there in 1992 and lived there 15 years before I left. I lived there because of my job.
I did NOT like the Miami metro area. I went through culture shock when I moved there. Most of the parts of the city that I lived in were NEW YORK CITY SOUTH. There are a LARGE number of people that move from the New York - New Jersery metroplex to retire there, and then their children also move down. AND THEY BRING THEIR NASTY ATTITUDES WITH THEM.
    "Culture shock" that I experienced:
    1) Rude, "Yeah, whadda YOU want?" attitudes from the staff in most of the restaurants and stores. Same for a lot of the people that you meet on the street.
    2) Aggressive, truely NASTY drivers that constantly use their horns and will cut you off when you are trying to merge on the highways, that run up the shoulders of the road to cut in line near exits, etc. -- consequently a lot of road rage.
    3) Poor city services -- roads are inadequate and in constant need of repair -- police enforcement is PATHETIC.
    4) A lot of bureaucratic paperwork to get anything done, with LONG lines at public offices, and bureaucrats that NEVER answer their phones.
    5) Southern terminus for the great annual bum migration. Area is flooded with bums every winter. They set up camp everywhere and leave filth everywhere. They quasi-mug people on the streets for handouts, especially the elderly. More than once I saw a bum pinning some old man or lady up against a wall, shoving his hand in their face "asking" for money.
    6) Don't leave ANYTHING unlocked or unwatched or it will disappear in a second.
    7) "Tourist trap" prices on all services and merchandise in stores. When I first moved in, I was shocked to be paying prices at the supermarket that were HIGHER than what I had paid in the convenience stores in Jacksonville.
    8) Total gridlock on traffic due to the inadequacy of the roads. I lived 15 miles from downtown, and it would take an hour and a half to get downtown to work in the summer and two hours in the winter when the tourists flooded the town.
    9) PATHETIC public school systems -- high crime rates -- low learning rates. Schools have their own separate police force and they still have problems keeping the violence under control. A lot of the people send their kids to private schools at a substantial cost for them to be save and properly educated -- just like in NYC.

If you are used to living in a big nasty city with poor public services, you probably won't see anything wrong. If not, then you will probably be facing culture shock.

The issue with Florida is some of the people (unless you are just the type of person who cannot handle the weather).

There are just a lot of bad people in Florida for some reason =/

Even though the barometric pressure helps to make some of the bad people even worse then they normally would be.
