Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / Looks Like "The Rumble" Offered Something Else

Here we go again, gentle readers. Ol' Frisky Fingers is at it again on his trusty keyboard, because it's time to once again go hither, thether, and all points in between. Today on City-Data, where it's great to be alive, we've got the goings-on that you need to know in this space, and nowhere else but here. Can you say, "Let's get ready to rumble..."? Well, just stay tuned....

********

Independence High School in Frisco, Texas, just had their very first of what would become an annual event for them. The Knights did a thing called "The Rumble". It's simply just a beginning celebration to the new school year with the football team, band, drill team, and the introduction to different organizations within the school. The event took place last Saturday at the school's junior varsity football stadium. On the grounds, there were also booths with games for everybody to play and food kiosks for the pleasing of palates. So this was "The Rumble". Something else had been rumbling that night. Even though we're already one week removed from this event, it's overdue and it bears mentioning. You see, The Rumble was interrupted for a little bit by a rumble..............of thunder! Yes, in the distance, some lightning was flashing here and there, and Independence's principal advised us of a lightning warning at the stadium, and he then asked all participants to go into the gym until things had settled down. Well, this was a treat, getting to go inside to take a look at the new gym at Independence High School. Nice and colorful. I'll go back and visit by the time basketball season rolls around.

Conditions eventually improved outside after ten minutes, but there were still some cloudy conditions near us and some rain well up north where the lightning strikes had been. We went back out to the stadium and things went off, a little disorganized, but mostly without a hitch. They'll learn and know what to do next time around, and, hopefully, the weather will cooperate, too.

Can you believe that Labor Day is only two weeks away? Wasn't yesterday Memorial Day??!! And don't any of you still miss the old Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon?

Boy, life sure is different these days.

I can tell you this: The Houston Astros will not lose 100 games this season. They just got their 51st victory of the year last night (as of this writing). They are 51-72 with 39 games to play, one of which I plan to attend next month at Minute Maid Park. Bo Porter keeps emphasizing to his team that they can overcome the doldrums of last year. You could safely say that they've improved.

The club just needs to keep getting better. It appears they could end up finishing fourth this season in the American League West, ahead of the freefalling Texas Rangers.

We've paused this week to remember two important celebrities: Robin Williams and Lauren Bacall. Both were beloved in the Hollywood community, and also, outside of it. They were big stars in an industry that is starting to get less talented and less powerful. We've lost a lot of legends through the years, and there just isn't anyone out there to replace them. And, truth be told, you don't replace a Lauren Bacall or a Robin Williams. You just don't.

Let's face it: Barack Obama is just an embarrassing president. He is the most disconnected public official that I've ever witnessed in my entire 48 years. While other countries are going to war, illegals are infiltrating our country, the nation's economy is still floundering (and, yet, Texas, led by Republicans, has the best economy in the country), violence is erupting in suburban St Louis (over a teen who robbed a convenience store), and the government debt continuing to rise, Barry is out playing golf. He doesn't care, folks, that any of that is happening. His whole party is an ongoing joke, as there is no semblance of need to tell the truth about anything that goes on in our world, what with more cover-ups, lies, and excuses than a bunch of grade school kids at recess. And, of course, anything that Darth Barry does is being done by design and on purpose, with the intent of making America a lesser country. The state-controlled media is not helping the matters, either, so we're limited on credible sources in finding out what's really happening, all the while fighting off narratives and a liberal-driven political agenda advancement.

America, we can overcome this crap. Let's get some real leadership. Let's put some conservatives (who really mean it) back in government and get the place under control. And, above all, let's oust Barack Obama from presidential power in 2015! People are sick and tired of being insulted and kicked to the curb. It's time for leadership, and there isn't any right now. Even Barry's golf game is so bad.

I mentioned Independence earlier. High school football is two weeks away. Here are my predictions for the new District 9-5A for the coming year:

Frisco Centennial Titans
Frisco Raccoons
The Colony Cougars
Frisco Wakeland Wolverines
Frisco Lone Star Rangers
Frisco Liberty Redhawks
Little Elm Lobos
Frisco Heritage Coyotes
Frisco Independence Knights

The top four who finish will be in the playoffs this year, beginning in November. This promises to be a fun year, and it's all going to be worth watching. Plus, look for some great band performances, too, and some of which you might end up seeing on YouTube. Stay tuned for all that.

And now, it's time for our Word Of The Day. Today's word is clean. You know, when you take a shower or bath each day, your goal afterward is to be clean. And everybody likes clean clothes to wear. Parents, you know your child can't have dessert unless he/she cleans the plate during dinner. Eat it all, Junior! And now, Ol' Case has to get to bed so he can have a clean slate for tomorrow. You know how that goes!

And there you are.

    (1) Some rumble that was. Good account.

    (2) The Astros will win the Silver Boot over the Rangers. I mean, Texas is so done. Houston will get better and finally overcome this four-year beatdown, and I think they will legitimately contend as early as next season. And you're hearing this from a Cardinals fan. I'd like to see Houston playing my Cards in a future World Series. That will generate a lot of buzz.

    (3) People are tired of Obama. The media has actually turned their attention to Hillary just to get their mad rush going. I just hope that America will not get any attacks by ISIS or anyone else before the next elections, and from all indications, the contrary is what Obama wants.

Be encouraged come November. Conservatives can take back the Senate, and there's a greater chance than ever of that happening. That will be the first step in getting our country back on the right foot. Make sure you vote!
