People, groups, societies will cooperate with others when it is in their own self-interest. This is not a new concept. Even George Washington wrote about it. “The motives which predominate most in human affairs [are] self-love and self-interest.” The following quote best summarizes his view: “We must make the best of mankind as they are, since we cannot have them as we wish them to be.”
And the reason these cooperators see cooperating as in their self-interest is because they all benefit from their cooperative enterprise.

And neither am I talking about Socialism. I think everyone agrees that a group of people are required to accomplish any great or large project. The fact that some projects result in greater monetary reward for a few, or that a single individual gets "top billing" when the project is publicized doesn't lessen the fact that big projects are only accomplished through the cooperation of many individuals.

Black and white thinking is at work in people trying to turn the word "cooperation" into something subversive.

There isn't a powerful entity in the world that wasn't a result of intense cooperation of an entire group of people.

You are correct! By not subjecting to this, one would not be able to climb very high on the economic ladder. The real non-manipulative wealth obtained from direct individual efforts in a vacuum either 1) is very small, 2) is large because it involves a host who has a means to cooperatively-driven wealth (the well paid nanny of the wealthy family; the needed by specific credential/licensing specialist who if not for the host corporation would have no real earning capacity in a vacuum ), or 3) involves levels of risk stacked against you such that the expected outcome is a loss, or 4) is black market business. All other roles involve people cooperation
