Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

That Grand Old Flag: Old Glory Must Still Fly

Posted 03-11-2015 at 04:51 PM by case44

There's nothing grander, bolder, or stronger than the greatest symbol of patriotism in existence today, and that's the American flag. You can drive through many a small town (or even some larger ones) and see Old Glory proudly displayed on short poles in front of people's houses, business offices, cafés, and storefronts. You'll also see them flying high on flagpoles above your state's flag at many schools, hospitals, government offices, and institutions. Just like mom, baseball, and apple pie, the American flag makes us all proud to be in the greatest country in the world, and glad that we are in America.

It's a happy symbol. But some things are not well at this time. The sad thing is this: I never would have ever imagined a day where Old Glory would be under such egregious attack. Oh, it's been under attack by people in other countries for many years, but only in recent years has it been under heavy assault by liberals and radicals here in my home country. You want loons going off the deep end? Below is a recent news story about how some lunatic college students voted not too long ago to ban.....

That's right, sports fans. Ban.

......the U.S. flag from the campus lobby of the University of California at Irvine. Never mind that you aren't surprised that this travesty occurred in California; I'm just disappointed at the ignorance and stupidity of some Americans today at places that are supposed to about higher learning. That it's even being considered at all is bad enough.

If Old Glory offends people, then those people should just move to another country. Problem solved. As for real Americans who do love their country, we will fly our flags. We will fly them proudly and without shame. Old Glory must rise up and never fall. Show it proudly, and let it fly.

I will never ban Old Glory. I will choose to fly it. So should you.

It was great driving through Coppell, Texas, on Bethel Road through Old Town Coppell on this Memorial Day, and seeing one U.S. flag after another along the street, flying proudly. Wow! What a great display! See? People do still care.

I'm so glad and proud to be American!
