What did God say?

Posted 08-21-2014 at 12:04 PM by Fortoggie

On the way to work this morning I saw this huge electronic sign that said; "marriage is the best place to start a family", signed God and then it referenced Gen.. 1:22
I am always wary of someone putting words in God's mouth but it's done all the time. I have read that a very rich man has allocated 20 million to put up signs all around the country, usually saying something good and even inspirational and then have the sign say it was of God. We will allow him good intentions but like so many men with large wealth they don't know how to use it.
Lets go back to Genesis; there were no marriages in Genesis anything like the marriages we have come to know in our time. In Genesis it seems that God just put Adam and Eve, together and let nature take it's course. Now to be sure I think that marriage should precede sex and children and that the families on both sides should line up and pledge their support and good will to the couple. But we all know that real life often doesn't go that way. Down through early history men and women were brought together by mutual instinct and sometimes by force and at other times by arrangements by one or both families. Even today millions of young people do not have the money and/or opportunity to have a proper marriage nor the proper setting to go through the red tape it requires in some places. Why make a fuss over good intentions? Because it messes up logic and true facts and lets the rich believe that they have done something with high moral value. Instead the 20 million might have been better spent giving poor young couples a $ 1000.00 gift to help them get started. At the very least we should be aware that God didn't say what was on the sign.
