What We Found Out About Cumberland County, NJ

Please forgive me...I'm new to this blogging thang! I wrote this as a comment to my other blog post. I will delete that comment as soon as I post this:

Here Goes:

Wow! What a weird day!
We drove down 55 and had lunch at a diner in Maurice River Twp. I really wanted to find some off-the-beaten-path place that sold seafood but hunger pangs took over so we ate at the diner. There was nothing remarkable about this diner but that is because I am from and live in NJ where diners are a dime a dozen. We had some wonderful Manhattan (the only kind I'll eat) clam chowder and some sandwiches.

We then mindlessly drove through Port Norris. It was a very depressed looking place. A lot of yard cars, dilapitated (sp?) homes that have seen better days.

We followed the signs to BiValve and ended up going the opposite way. We stumbled into Fortescue and it was bizarre.

I would think that being on the Delaware shore would make a town like this very desirable. You can tell that some people think that way because there were some beautiful new construction here and there along the shore. It's weird because right next to a beautiful house would be a run-down, boarded up shack.
Driving along the Delaware "shore", the sea foam was crawling across the street. We hoped that is was high tide because the water came right up to the dock. Maybe calling it a dock is an error. It looked as if a lot of old construction land-fill stuff was piled up to keep the water at bay. Strange!

We drove through endless (sad looking) countryside. A lot of propane tanks, cruddy houses with cruddy yards. We drove through Bridgeton and stopped at 7-11 to get some water. Drove on to Salem. We didn't stop anywhere even though Salem has some incredible historic buildings. I was tired and had enough. So....finally jumped on 295N and went home.

Would I go back? nope...but now I can say I have been to Cumberland and Salem counties...LOL!

Have a great evening all!

I'll eat the "other" clam chowder if I'm starved and nothing else is available but Manhattan Clam Chowder is the best, by far.

NJ, "The diner capital of the world". I only say this since I was raised in NJ and it's still "HOME" as far as I'm concerned.
