a messed up MRI = fate?

Posted 01-01-2009 at 11:34 AM by shannybannany
I went to the doctor recently complaining of pain in my tailbone. I fell and cracked it back in 1996. I was walking on a Manhattan street with two cups of coffee from the diner in both hands when..whoosh, I fell directly on my back (ice) and cracked my tailbone. I had x-rays done but what could they do?...put a cast on my ass? Anyway, I remember it taking about 6 months to heal. Fast forward 13 years and now I find it hard to sit. Oh....and by the way, As I was flat on my back, unable to get up, people walked around me like I was some crusty bum. Nice! Now I know how it felt to be a bug on its back, unable to get up.

I go to McGuire AFB for my doctor appointments. Hubby is retired from the Air Force and although I can go to a doctor closer to Cherry Hill, I choose to make the 40 minute drive for several reasons. The staff is so professional and nice. The medical clinic is clean and new and finally, I can get everything done there and of course I can get a shopping in at the commissary.

I couldn't get an appointment with my primary doctor and instead had to see Dr. Ogon.

Dr. Ogon is a very sweet, soft-spoken Air Force Captain who is originally from Africa. I told him everything about my tailbone and he ordered an MRI for me.
I didn't have to wait long. I had the MRI done within a couple of days.

Mind you, I was afraid of the MRI. I am claustrophobic. My boss told me to wear a sleep-mask since this was a closed MRI. That really helped because even though you know you shouldn't, you'll open your eyes.

Yesterday, my primary doctor, Captain Shwartzkoff called to tell me about my MRI results. She stated that there was inflammation and bulging in my lower back. BUT....Dr. Ogon did not order the correct MRI. It didn't photograph my tailbone area. It didn't go that far. Hello?????? That was the reason I got the MRI in the first place.

BUT....she told me I had a lesion on my kidney. WHAT?????
I start new MRIs and catscans, bloodwork, etc.... next week.

So....after all of that, IF Dr. Ogon ordered the correct MRI in the first place, I may have not found the lesion until POSSIBLY I started having symptoms of renal disease.

Fate?

I never had any problems with full time Air Force or Army doctors. It's the Reserve doctors who don't seem to care much. I had a physical at Walter Reed Army hospital because the "reserve" doctors felt I had a problem with high blood pressure. The full time doctors gave me a stress test, said I was fine and to lay off nicotine and cafine during the physicals. The civillian doctors agreed with the full time military doctors.
