Living In the South

Posted 03-23-2014 at 03:11 PM by Fortoggie

Many writers have pointed out that the the south is a special place but not always in a complimentary way. While the south has changed a lot it still has many of it's old characteristics. It's own way of viewing history and of forecasting the future and of thinking of our location on planet earth as being in the center of things.
It is true that our weather, when taken year round, does make us feel privileged as if we have been smiled on by God himself but man cannot live by weather alone. Our hills and our heritage has made it hard to claim the good life. That is unless we consider living vicariously through the lives of the privileged around us and count that as living good.
If we really look there are just too many shanty's, substandard abodes, house trailers and run down apartments all around us. These places generally have no books of importance, no discussions for children to grow up in and no social structure to build solid families and communities. One writer said that when he was a teen and seeking someway to rise, he could find no handle to pull himself up with. Many of us have had that same experience, searching desperately to find something to grab onto but either not finding that something or after finding it felt it give way before we could get to our feet.
The people who really control our lives are unknown to us, living in their gated communities, hiding in their offices far away from the smell of sweat and of grease.
They decide where roads and schools will be built. They feel good about that and thank God that he has made them the favored ones.
To keep this working year after year they need the willingness of the lower classes and their readiness to accept their lot in life and be satisfied with whatever crumbs fall from the table. The beat goes on and the southerner is for now satisfied with having smart phones and video games to play with.

Perceptive forum, living in the south is unique. I know it has changed but not intrinsically.
I am here to address gated communities..most unfortunately I live in one much to my chagrin. I lived in one before this one, I am a slow learner, thought this one might be a little different, nope carbon copies, the board along with their cronies do just as they please. Musical chairs is the time honored yearly same folks but different chairs
Hypocrisy is key in this type of housing. By the way I thought there would be more over 50 heck no Lake Walton Estates is kiddy city Georgia.
It comes across as "my poop doesn't stink community".
If I ever get out of this nosy place I will NEVER look back, they want to pick and choose whom they let enter as one board member put it "our little slice of Heaven". Hell was more on the tip of my tongue.
