Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

I-69 Update: Can The New Harbor Bridge Be Part Of A New Route?

More miles of Interstate 69 are being added to the state of Texas in the many projects going on right now. This same interstate is also seeing miles added in other states like Tennessee and Indiana, where the latter state appears closer to having the entire project complete by 2024.
Good for Indianer. Still, however, there is a ways to go with this. Kentucky appears set except for a segment to go over a new Ohio River bridge. That, plus the new I-69 signage. Arkansas is slowly coming, but no work as yet in Louisiana. Hopefully, someone in our neighboring states will wake up and start getting things going, as we need this highway through the nation's breadbasket.
Now, in Texas, you've likely seen all of the information related to the building of I-69 in the Lone Star State. What hasn't been mentioned, save for one blogger's thought on another site (and I don't remember which one), is the possibility of a future I-69 addition to include U.S. Highway 181 and Texas State Highway 286. The road does go by Corpus Christi's downtown district, as well as the Bayfront. A new alignment, currently under construction, will also include the new Harbor Bridge towering over the Port of Corpus Christi. While much priority is given to the other components of the current I-69 build in Texas, one has to get the idea that this Crosstown segment could become a new loop with I-69E as it skirts CC to its west and traverses south to Kingsville and north to Woodsboro. It's a can worth kicking around as soon as the bigger projects can get done.
Other tasty tidbits for you: I will make a prediction. Yes, your ever-so-humble writer will predict that I-69E will be the first branch in South Texas to connect fully with the rest of the national interstate system. Ol' Dwight will be done so proud. By 2030, we shall see a substantial completion of Interstate 69E between I-37 and the Mexico border. Having that portion get done first is important for a number of reasons. An improved hurricane evacuation route will be employed here. Plus, this is the road which South Padre Island travelers have used and will be using once a new I-69E is finally done by 2030. Now, a northern component of 69E will still need to be done north of Corpus, but we can finally see a substantial finish of the portion from Calallen all the way to Brownsville. It'll be here before anyone knows it.
By then, we may hear or see new rumblings about the Harbor Bridge segment and its inclusion to the interstate network. The designation that I'm suggesting is I-269, but I'll have more on this when it stops being speculation and becomes an actual proposal.
