Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Astros Keep Making History........And Almost Made It Again!

Posted 06-27-2022 at 05:45 PM by case44

The Houston Astros are having another great season in baseball. And this year has not gone without a few events to keep in the memory bank.

We're almost at the halfway point in the season, and the Astros have already had two immaculate innings pitched in the same game, and that's never happened before anywhere in Major League Baseball. And just in the last two days, we've seen Astros starting pitchers no-hit the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium (Saturday's effort was combined between the starter and two relievers) and dang near do it again the following day (Yankees no-hit for the first 6 1/3 innings of the Sunday matinee before they would storm back and win). You would have thought it was Houston's offense getting all the attention, but, aside from the heroics of Yordan Alvarez, it's the Astros' pitching staff that's been near or at the top of the American League leaderboards in numerous categories. People are already talking about Justin Verlander in Cy Young Award discussions. If he keeps his pace going, then he has a shot at it.

It's important that the Astros' offense start producing better than it has, as it's been too inconsistent all year. That's despite doing just enough to win in some of these games.

But, imagine: Two immaculate innings in Arlington, and a near-back-to-back no-hitter twosome at Yankee Stadium. Interesting trivia bit: The Astros were the last team to no-hit the Yankees. That took place in the old Yankee Stadium, with six Astros pitchers combining for the no-no.

With another half of baseball still to come, the history-makers and history writers will be out in full force.

Writers are saying that the Astros could eventually overtake the Yankees for that number one seed in the postseason. The way things are going, I'd have to agree.
