Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

North Beach In Corpus Needs More Action And Less Talk

Posted 01-26-2023 at 07:15 PM by case44

Corpus Christi, Texas, is a city with quite a bit to offer.........and yet, it still comes up short. I bring this up because one key piece of the area is still woefully lagging behind the rest of the city in bringing in new tourists.

I'm talking about Corpus' North Beach district. It's got the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium as its features, along with some beachfront, but much of the remaining development in that area is blight. And who wants to vacation across from a blighted area? Oh, sure, they've got a couple of hotels and a condo or two, and a Whataburger, but what else is there?

I'll give you one word: Potential.

I've said that about Lubbock and Fort Stockton and other places, so why not North Beach in Corpus? For some folks, this place is the first thing they see when they come into this city, be it for vacay or bidness. Let me invite you to the below link, and you can see the vision that leaders have for that part of town. Badly needed.

City officials have talked about the thing for years. Yes, there are skeptics amongst the bretheren and sisteren. Then there are those who dream. As I've said about a lot of things, "If you don't see it before you see it, then you'll never see it." Important phrase as it is, as that is taken from a pastor at a church I previously was a member of, but said phrase plays a huge role in this undertaking. Corpus must bond together now, as this North Beach project, coupled potentially with the completion of the new Harbor Bridge, could see the greatest of timing in coming together.

Time for all action and less talk.

The video did say Coming in 2023, but if they can get it going this year, then they could get some phases done in about three years.
