...And I've got Termites!

Posted 02-11-2009 at 08:07 PM by Drouzin

So I go to Virginia to visit my sister for about 2 weeks. I borrowed SIL's luggage and loaded up one bag with muffalattas, (a really stinky, yet delicious sandwich), and king cake; naturally that was the bag the airline lost. When I got the bag back it took a couple of days for the smell to go away.

The first week there was snow, (yea!), and I went sledding for the first time in my life. Apparently you are not supposed to put your foot down flat to stop. I learned that when I had my foot bent backwards and then the sled runner ran over the bent back foot.

I then met some nice people in the emergency room. One nurse's brother lives on Poland Ave. and there was a guy from Chalmette there as well. Go figure, three NOLA area people up in the ER so far away from home! On top of this nice surprise, I got to wear a special boot that pumps full of air for a few days.

Two days later we returned for another visit to the ER with Sis in tow. Sadly she was admitted and ended up having a rush surgery. I extended my time in VA for the care and feeding of post op sis.

My return home was also an interesting adventure; it seems I was not the only one concerned with the pitching, rolling, and dropping of the airplane that the pilot called, "bumps." When the passengers on an airplane applaude the pilot for making a successful landing, maybe it's more than a few, "bumps." I had to pry my hands off of the arm rests in order to exit the plane.

After I got off the flight from hell, I had just about talked myself into an Amtrack ticket for the second half of my journey home when I decided I am not a rich woman and perhaps a beer and a pain pill, (from my ER visit), would inebrate me enough to want to get on a plane again.

Fortunately, I didn't have to dope myself up to get on the second flight because the hour and a half wait, (flight delay for bad weather), kinda calmed my nerves. Well, until I got on the plane, they shut the door and then announced another, "bumpy," ride. The plane backed out about two feet and then came to a halt and pulled forwards again. A few min. later the pilot came out and told us there was going to be another delay because the gas gage was broken and that they were repairing it as he spoke.

Despite feeling doomed, I did make it home and did not make it on the evening news. The love of my life greets me with a bottle of absenthe and dinner at Acme Oyster House. Just as I sigh in contentment he announces that the house is trashed and we have termites in the bathtub at home.

So I'm now home and the cats are mad at me for being gone, and I've had to clean the termites out of the tub to take a hot soak. My cousin is coming in 2 days to bring me my costume and see the house for the first time. It's going to take me 3 days to clean the mess. Ain't life grand?

Your life is one adventure after another, but you are the best sister in the world with an innate sense of how to care for the sick and wounded. Thank GOD you were here! Thank you!

Yeah that's me a right old Sister Pauline! Maybe next time they won't throw me out of OR for taking pre-op pics. You just can't take me anywhere can you?

Seriously, I was glad to be there. Hugs.
