  • One interesting historical note: Florida, N.Y. is the birthplace of William H. Seward. Secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln and responsible for the purchase of Alaska for the U.S., that purchase being known then as "Seward's Folly." His parents had a seat in the Presbyterian Church. The Seward family moved to Auburn, NY, when William Henry he was very young and where he grew up. For years his birth home was used as a barn.
