Swansea: Swansea Baptist Church at 145 S Church Street, Swansea, South Carolina. The street, also US-321, is named after this church. Picture is looking north more or less, and was taken on January 30th, 2009. Swansea: Looking up S Monmouth Ave from W Third St in Swansea, South Carolina, on January 30th, 2009. Business seems brisk for this area and type of building stock. Swansea: One of Swansea Milling Company's buildings on the corner of W Second Street and N Spring Street in Swansea, South Carolina. The mill is located one block to the west of the train tracks. The silos in the background likely belong to them as well. Swansea: The front of the Swansea Municipal Building, Swansea, South Carolina. It seems from the logo on the window that Swansea was in Bull Swamp Township, which no longer exists as a legal entity. It is kind of cool that the town has added this bit of history to its seal. There was only one Bull Swamp Township in the world, and there will probably never be another.
Swansea: Looking northeast from W Third Street up Cardiff Avenue at some forlorn storefronts in Swansea, SC. It is safe to assume that these businesses were tied to the Southbound Railroad traffic at one time. A lot of the streets in Swansea (and the town) are named after cities in Wales, including Cardiff, Monmouth, and Brecon. Judging by the non-Welsh names of the names of the founders of the town, the choice was more likely an affection than a reflection of their ethnic heritage.
