Well, interesting thread. I live in Naples, we moved down here because of a job and do not have kids. I work in the school system however and can say, after coming from Northern Virginia, the schools here are AWFUL. We are moving before we have kids, I would never raise my kids here. The weather is depressing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, great, we get to go to the beach when we want to and can sit outside and have dinner on the water every couple weeks but it is not worth it. That is what vacations are for. The crime in Naples is not as bad as Lee and Charlotte County but watching the news around here makes me think, 'wow, who knew there were so many low class, trashy people in one area.' Sorry, if that sounded rude but it is what it is. I have never been to Cape Coral or Port Charlotte so I can not speak to those areas, but from what I have heard and from what you see on the news, I do not even want to visit, YUCK!
I have not been as unhappy in my life as I am here, it is awful. The job situation is terrible, the economy is terrible, the poverty level is terrible-yes, even in Naples- and the presence of snowbirds and their awful driving is enough to want to make you drown in the ocean.
There is no culture here, no city life, nothing to do. It is the last place I would raise my kids.
