Whether there is or isn't anything worth watching on cable, there are plenty of other shows (or films/videos/music) worth watching/listening to online as well-which can help one forget about whatever one's missing on cable.
Got DSL (after only having had dial-up) a year and a half ago, at same time ceased cable/tv usage. Been watching only online content ever since, and find it fits my circumstances/schedule (and tastes) much better. The only costs are for internet service from my phone company & electric bill-I don't buy shows.
I don't mind watching some British mystery series from 15 years ago on YT, that's actually my idea of fun/entertainment. The main current/contemporary "new" tv episodes I watch are Daily Show & Colbert Report, which I view free via Comedy Central's site.
