I'm not even gonna go into Seeker's post, which is completely drenched in ignorance of the Jewish problem and belligerence of Islamic extremists.
What I was saying carolina_guy, support for Israel is in the grassroots of American policy making. Obama can seek to change it but he will be rightfully booted out, if he seeks to make a permanent damage. The Jewish lobby is way too powerful and they have held a firm grip on the economy and commerce of the United States since the 40s, since Truman decided to pressure other countries on the UN recognition of Israel.
For Christians, it's partly driven by the scripture and partly by the collective guilt we have for having persecuted them since the first century.
While Israel considers itself Israeli, the Arabs consider them Jewish. It's driven by racial hatred and religious hatred.
I'll recommend the book "O Jerusalem" to Israel's armchair critics. It will give a whole new perspective to their problem and their inherent struggle.
