Just a request for clarification here, how the contest is judged is obviously up to you, and this subject seems to be touched on in the contest rules. Some threads can go on for pages on the same subject, with posters debating fine points and with each rejoinder adding another tidbit of information. Would posts by a single poster in one of those threads be lumped together towards a score or would each one count X number of points, allowing someone to game the contest by being just irritating enough to keep the thread going? Either way is fine, but I'd rather not be more irritating than I already am...
We have an code that allows us to read randomized post or even post fragments so we don't take into account any particular thread. Your general style of writing, the amount of information versus banter - that's what is taken into account.
Someone who avoids banter and is pithy with information has a better chance of winning. That's why the contest is called City-Data Forum's Most Informative Poster Contest.
Ugh, we reused the rules from an earlier contest with some changes and by mistake the "U.S. residents" part was left in. Sorry about that. However, while we cannot change the rules now in the middle of the contest, we can always award informal extra prizes outside the contest if people from outside the U.S. do well. You will have to take us at our word, though.
I am a Spaniard living in Spain, so I am not supposed to be able to win this contest, but I gave it a go anyways, just in case. I'll just keep posting as usual, being outrageously funny and informative as hell, and see what happens. Don´t worry, I wont say no to one of those informal extra prizes.
Does the contest favor topics that offer links or footnotes to back up a statement or opinion? Some sub forums are subjective by their vary nature. "Relationships" and "Non Romantic Relationships" are two that come to mind.
I would guess that it is not a question of soft topics; what is relevant is whether or not you are posting facts as opposed to opinions or feelings. If you are providing hard data (not the same as a hard topic, please note), and doing so in a thorough, well-written, non-judgmental fashion, I suspect it doesn't matter what forum you post in.
It may be more difficult to make a fact-based post in a forum like Relationships than it is in, say, Photography, but in the final analysis, I would wager that the content of your post matters far more than the forum in which it is made.
Please register to post and access all features of our very popular forum. It is free and quick. Over $68,000 in prizes has already been given out to active posters on our forum. Additional giveaways are planned.
