When does someone determine when a thread has run its course and is to be closed? What happens to the thread after that?

I'm not sure about all the threads but I had started one about being sick of the offended and pc people. We were all having fun with it but this one particular poster was of course, offended by it, tried to argue with us and complained to the moderator who closed it down.

songinthewind7: Thanks for the prompt reply. The reason I asked was that there are several topics open in a few cities that simply go on and on, and some of the posters fall short of attacking or offending, but they sure do make some dumb posts. I was under the impression that we were all in here to do some good for others and have some fun at it while doing so.

I've learned a lot from the people here on CD but you've got all kinds and that's what makes it interesting or non-interesting.
I don't like it when threads close. I've gone through a couple of them and got to the last page wanting to respond and noticed they were closed and I've also have seen some threads closed by the original posters request. I'm not sure why someone would want to start a thread and then request that it be closed.
I believe that most of us posting like to give advice, receive advice, get support, give support, debate on subjects and rant. I'm guilty of all this but I don't take it personally if someone doesn't like the way I post.

I take everything so personally... it's a wonder I haven't been banned yet.

We don't often close threads per request. In most cases, it is done after we've deleted to many rude posts, spam or personal attacks. Since you cannot see deleted posts, the reason for closing may not be obvious.

Thanks for the input. I now believe I understand. Now, on to another subject in a different forum!

Some moderators are really good at deciding if/when to close threads. With others, it can be done at the drop of a hat.

Sometimes threads are closed due to OP poster question has been answered and the subject of the thread has either veered way off topic or is being beaten to death

If you question a deleted, edited post or closed thread feel free to use the direct message feature to a moderator of that forum and they will be glad to answer your question.

I agree with the Mods' interpretation and explanation. I started a thread about martial arts in the sports forum but although some were reading it the thread received no interest at all. I asked that it be closed so as not to waste the space and it was.

I have learned a lot since I first posted in this thread....thanks Mods!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
