Ignore is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you won't see the offending person's actual posts. On the other hand, you will see a copy of that post every time someone quotes it with a response, which defeats the purpose of putting him on ignore. In addition, if people respond to the ignored person's posts, and do NOT quote it, you get to see half the conversation out of context, which makes me, at least, lose interest in the entire thread OR take the offending poster off ignore just to find out what everyone else is talking about.

In summary, the ignore feature only works if everyone participating in the thread complies.

Only ignore feature I used is me. I just don't respond at all and after a while the baiting deceased because the person realizes that you would feed into their nonsense. So that's the only ignoring that seems to work

So let me say this without getting into specifics. Don't engage the trolls or in bickering with posters with bad reputations on here, or else, you may find yourself being punished when you attempt to stick up for yourself. The mods don't really seem to care about your reasoning either. I haven't even seen a response to my DM which was sent a couple days ago.

Let the trolls win their Internet battles. It means nothing IRL. Their lives probably suck IRL, and that's why they go through so much trouble to stir the pot and get a rise out of complete strangers. They actually just did a This American Life podcast episode about the topic of trolling. You should check out the latest episode. The first segment was about a troll that harassed a comedian/blogger/activist through several different accounts. He ultimately revealed himself IRL after apparently hitting a real low point, and he essentially said that the reason he was trolling her so hard was because of how unhappy he was with his own life and how happy and positive she seemed.

I think it's rather ironic that some of the people who complain most about other posters and actually brag about putting people on their "ignore" list are clearly (as demonstrated in their posts) very intolerant of others themselves and don't seem to have very well-rounded lives - always picking holes in others and in general finding their fellow humans very difficult to interact with. Some of them also seem to suffer from persecution complexes, often mistaking someone's differing opinion as an automatic personal attack.

There are a few posters I don't think I'd particularly care for in real life but I've never put anyone on "ignore" and have even repped a few with whom I don't generally agree but who've come up with a good point or two. I HAVE reported a few posts here and there over the years but they're mainly spam posts and advertising posts with a few just simply outright rude. I stay FAR away from most of the religious and political forums as the comments on many of those threads make me wonder which planet I'm living on.

On the top right of each post there’s a red triangle with a black exclamation point inside. That’s the report icon. You can leave a brief explanation of why you’re reporting the post and a moderator will review it.

Thank you! the user was repeatedly harassing others, so i noticed a pattern there. my responsibility to put up a boundary for that behavior.

(there is no Red Triangle on their post since the 'Ignore' function was used. What to do now?)

You still can click view post and see the post - along with the report button. I believe I just moderated the thread in question. If you have questions about how I moderated it, you may DM me. Discussing specific moderation isn’t permitted on the open forum.
