I'd like to register my opposition to the current practice of relocating all threads that mention an automotive brand to one of the brand-specific forums. It's counterproductive.

The brand forums have been given a decade to work, and basically don't. Threads there are largely ignored by both Automotive forum users and all C-D users.

It may well be that Automotive is high enough in traffic to warrant some splitting by general subtopics - Car Buying & Leasing, DIY/Repairs, etc. - but not by twenty or more brand divisions.

Please, stop relocating potentially interesting threads from the main forum, and phase out the brand forums.

We’ve not had the Automotive forum split into brands for a decade, though.

The OP is asking that not every thread in the main forum -- if it references a specific car -- be moved to that brand's sub-forum. That's the big ask here.

I thought I saw discussion that the first ones were created around 2007.

In any case, they've been around long enough to disprove their usefulness.

Pretty much. I doubt keeping most of the traffic in one forum will overwhelm anyone, and a more logical division by general topic - as above - might make more sense.

Guys,

This has been addressed before in this thread. Please, read this thread thoroughly as it contains a trick for NOT seeing all of the brand specific subforums.

Also, for inquiring minds, this thread will give you the trivia answer to when the brand specific subforums were instituted. It hasn't been 10 years - yet!

Happy Motoring!

Anyway, I believe the OP's issue is not to hide the brand sub-forums but that posts made in the main form not be moved to the sub-forums where they feel lost if you're not looking for something specific to THAT brand.

Thank you for making the OP's point a couple of times. This issue has been covered in a previous thread and again here. Decisions about forums and sub-forums are the decision of the Administrator.

Hopefully the tip in the previous thread, linked above, will assist.

Since this has now been discussed, and is visible to the Administrator for his perusal if he decides to make a change, this thread is now closed.
