Certain words are automatically filtered by the message board and * is substituted for each letter of the filtered word. All we would know about *** is that it has 3 letters. You may want to send a DM to the person who made the post if you can't guess the missing word.

I am fairly sure it is against the rules to try to get around these filters by substituting characters within a filtered word.

Probably is but I do it anyway.
Like when I try to explain why my grey and white cat is named Willow, she is named after the plant Pu$$y Willow. Well of course the filter doesn't like the first part of the name.

As long as you type doowop as one word the swear filter won't pick it up. (As you did in your post) The last 3 letters used as a word are considered to be a derogatory racial slur against people of Italian descent. When you split it into 2 words Doo-Wop (without the dash)... it gets censored.

It might be time to tweak the system.

I just saw the Doo-Wop thread in the music forum. I've had ******* censored twice. Both times I was referring to the video game. It seems silly to censor these two words in an adult forum. Does anyone actually use these words in the derogatory way. I've never ever heard the second one used in a derogatory fashion in my life. I've only heard of the video game. The first word I've heard, maybe 35 or 40 years ago. And, it was probably in a book or a movie.

I find it hard to believe that people use those two words in a derogatory fashion in this day and age.

I disagree that the list of "censored" words is too long. Judging by the reports I receive from people who are offended by words not censored automatically and threads in this forum objecting to certain pejorative terms aimed at ethnic and religious groups, the list of censored words is too short.

Also, FWIW, what terms people find offensive really does vary in different parts of the country.

Is it *******? Yep, guess so! Like when I try to type the first name of the lead singer of the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, well, that used to get asterisked!

As annoying it can be to have the filters censor words that were not meant to be derogatory, I would prefer to keep things as is. I've been on another site where profanity was not being censored and it really was not a pleasant site. I would prefer to deal with the auto filters.
