I see that there is no longer a favicon in the address bar when I browse pages here at City-Data. Was it a conscious choice to get rid of it?

I think it must be something on your end - we haven't made any changes to our favicon lately and it's still working just like before for me in both IE and Firefox.

I avoid IE whenever possible, so I checked from another computer. I do see the favicon just fine with the other machine.

Firefox on the first machine shows other sites' favicons just fine, so something must be amiss with its cache or the bookmarks.

Sorry for the confusion.
