I have received a direct solicitation for my homebuying from a realtor that direct messaged me from a post on this board. Why is that allowed. I find it insulting and annoying. A friend of mine also used this board and had the same realtor solicite them and offer a rebate. Does not seem like we should have to put up with this type of stuff.

I know I can just delete but still we could all have any vendor writing us and clogging up our e-mails with them wanting our business.

If I wanted a realtor I might ask for help and ideas but to get solicited not good practice. Think the only reason they come to this board is to try to grab a client.

That person who just posted the ad for home inspections was deleted almost as quick as it was posted. We the readers here have control over spam like that.

DMing solicitations are in very poor taste I say. You suggest it has happened more then once. Complain to you know who.

I get DMs all the time but it is for technical information with questions about a post I did in the House forum. I love it. Keepem coming. But I would not like some one trying to sell me something.

I've been solicited twice via DM by realtors and while I gave them the benefit of the doubt and didn't report them, I certainly wouldn't hire anyone doing that. It doesn't come across as helpful, it comes across as desperate and predatory. Especially since my posts are clear that I'm not going to be ready to buy until my lease is up. When they ignore that part, it gives the impression that they can't read. Which is not a good thing in a realtor.

How do you report something if it is a DM

It is most certainly against the rules for a realtor to DM advertising info. If you need to report such a problem, simply DM a moderator and they will take it from there. If you need to report a post there is the "report post" icon (the red triangle with an exclamation point) at the top right of every post.

It's just life. I try very hard to ignore it.

We're all selling something, and they are just trying to make a living. I can't fault them for that.

But that's just me.

Excellent question! Why are Realtors allowed to solicite when anyone else with a self-profession is deleted?

just to clarify, nobody is speaking of me since I never dm anyone who doesn't specifically ask me to. I am a regular on the board and I want to be clear that ya'll are not referring to me.
