Reporting advertising
If a brand new poster has made four threads in different forums, all advertising, can just one of the threads be reported and all four will be deleted or do they have to be reported individually?

You can do either. If you want to report just one you can make a note in your message box to the Mods telling them to check the posters other posts or threads.

It isn't worth trying to report it. You have no way of knowing if the mod for the forum is online. If you try to do the smart thing(post it here), you'll get a nastygram telling you to use the report button. So, don't waste your time. Just my $.02.

Not only has reporting it worked when I have done so, sometimes I get rep points from a mod!

Your experience differs quite dramatically from mine in this area. I've found it to be overwhelmingly a waste of time and effort, unfortunately.

When you use the Report feature, the mod(s) for the forum is automatically notified that a post/thread needs review. If the mod isn't online at the time, s/he will look at the report as soon as possible.

Same for me. I report all I find. It does help the mods do their job better. I usually report it as multiple violations in one report.

And that does nothing when you have someone making multiple posts in different forums. Do we flip a coin on deciding which post to report? Do we wait like saps for a minute at a time to report each spam posting? The simplest and quickest way to do it would be to make a post here stating Spammer, with the name of the offending poster. That also ensures that the whole profile for the spammer is deleted immediately. I understand that this is not the way C-D wants it reported, so i refrain from doing it now.

Same. In my experience it's always been handled promptly and pleasantly by whichever mod resolves the problem.

If you notice multiple spam posts, simply report one of them and -- in the comments section -- tell the mod that the member has made other spam posts as well.
