I've seen several threads in the relationship forum closed with no explanation, I didn't see anything that bad in any of them. Can (at least a quick) explanation be given when closing a thread?

Thanks,
Steve

We'd rather keep such things private. The fact that you don't see a problem is proof of the good job a moderator has done. You won't see deleted posts, hence you may not realize what led to the thread being locked. If you have doubts, you're welcome to DM the moderator. However, be advised, that we don't disclose information about other members' deleted posts, infractions, etc, so you may still not get the answer you seek. Rest assured, though, we don't close threads without reason - we would be shooting ourselves in the foot this way.

Some mods do say things like "thread closed due to too much argumentation, personal attacks, etc". It's just nice to know.

But you won't see the deleted posts. The posts with the arguments, personal attacks, obscene language, off topic posts etc. Sometimes it makes the Moderator look like the bad guy, closing a thread which does not look very bad...

Some forums are much more aggressive about it than others. For example the New Mexico forum is super sensitive and will shut you down at the drop of a hat, whereas you can say just about anything on the Colorado forum. It's very unevenly applied.

Yes, we realize that. It's because there are different people in charge of different forums. It's always been like that and we've explained it many times. It's not a problem for most people, though. If you post within the rules and can debate in a civil way, you won't even notice this.

Edit: I'm closing this thread since the original question was answered and we don't want it to turn into a discussion about particular forums/moderators. These things should be dealt with in private.
