I feel for business owners, but as a poster, if logging on the forum meant being subjected to business advertisements, it would be bye-bye city-data for me.

It wouldn't hurt to have one ongoing thread dedicated to small business. I'm not saying everyone with a business start a new thread daily. But one thread dedicated solely to new business wouldn't hurt

All threads have their place on the forum. Opening the forum to small businesses would mean realtors would start posting and we'd be inundated with business owners that wouldn't contribute to the forum except for multiple advertisements.

Here's the thread on where questions about City-Data are suppose to be posted: Advertising

Mods are appointed to enforce the rules of a forum. If they don't, they'll get removed and replaced with some one who will, so it really isn't fair to ask them to "bend the rules". Besides, once they bend the rules for one person/group, then everybody else will be yelling that their exception should be allowed too.

One doesn't have to spend all day on the forum to find out stuff. The search function can whittle the field down quite quickly with a key word or two. Hop on in the evening and search and viole, you know if anybody asked about something of interest to you.

ellemaew,

i done a search with my particular keyword before i started this thread. 399 threads came back. and not everyone who post in those threads is actually looking for a certain service, they're just making comments.

i just think that if there was one dedicated thread for business it would be successful. that way folks that are looking for a certain service could open that thread, do a search within that thread and find who/what they needed easily.

anyway..

You can always put the information in your profile, and have your quote be a statement about what you do. Personally, I can already do a search on Google for the service I need in the area that I need it and probably get a much better search return than I would get from a thread on here.
