She told the Albuquerque Journal, “The whole point is that, during a very stressful time in his life, he took the time to save the life of a child.”
He told her, “I hope with all my heart that I have helped bring to an end your long search and longing to find your Vietnamese roots.”
A truly heartwarming story about one woman's search for her (international) roots and finally finding the truth of her early life.
(And lest anyone suggest that she was "disgrunted" or that she only wanted to search because of some other perceived dissatisfaction with her adoptive status, here's an earlier story on her life in the U.S. She's had a successful military career and obviously cares greatly about her adoptive parents. She was also just naturally curious about her history.)
Thank you for the update. I had read about this woman a long time ago as those of us in the Vietnamese adoption community have spread her story. but i did not know about the reunion. It's wonderful.
It is a wonderful story, thank you for sharing. I cannot imagine having an origin story like that, or after so many years being able to meet someone like Bao Tran. I'm sure he was very relieved to finally hear about her, as well.
The real hero is of course the old man who rescued her from certain death on the side of the road. He surely would have been killed if discovered with this baby.
They were on a news show this AM here (a filler), he lives in NM now and their meeting was very sweet and nostalgic. She went on to have a wonderful life w/ many opportunities she wouldnt have had otherwise and while I dont know much about his story (other than his working w/ Americans and eventually moving here), he seemed happy to find out the 'rest of the story' and put some closure on things, they were both emotional and it was nice seeing the tape of both of them together

Yeah, I can't claim to have "discovered" the story on my own -- I saw it on the news a couple nights ago and then again this morning.

Agreed. & if I was the adoptee in the article, I would wonder what happened to him, too.
