Some of you just don't know anything else but complaining, no matter how good you have it.

South Africa would be a perfectly nice place to live in most respects, but I don't think I'd ever want to live in a place where I would feel that it is necessary to hire someone to watch my house when Im away, and that applies to nearly of Africa.

However, in most African countries (but not ZA), you can get a fair amount of protection from thieves and burglars (most of whom will just be opportunistic neighbors) by spreading the word around that you've applied gris-gris to your doors and windows. Of course, then your friends and neighbors won't come and visit you any more, either.

in short, yes I would consider it. Where ? maybe the Boland area or a coastal western cape town.

that said there is no getting around the fact that SA is a f'ed up country. Hearing the crime stories is infuriating, the corrupt, populist political scene is just sickening. Poverty is EVERYWHERE.

and yet when you go there and enjoy the climate, chilled vibe, beautiful landscapes, and cheap life (very cheap life), those problems sometimes appear to sink into the background and vanish. So I think if i lived I would be torn between my very western need for order and development versus the more simple pursuit of everyday life pleasures

Or anywhere else in the Western World. Gruzia might be a better option for you, as tens of thousands of South African farmers are recently finding out.

That's a 4th world country, and that was the worst world cup ever.

South Africans of Euro ancestry should relocate to Australia, New Zealand, or Argentina.

I wouldn't mind living there for a couple of years, but I don't think I could live there permenantly.

I think White South Africans went about Apartheid in a wrong way. I understand how White South Africans might not have been keen on Western culture being over-ran by African cultures, but they made no real effort for eventual integration and any meaningful investment in "Black South Africa." If South Africa did some things differently, all South Africans could be enjoying a much higher standard of living today.

Why not some months/weeks ? It's a good place to improve my skills in English. But just some months/weeks because it's apparently dangerous.
