Velvet Jones, no government is perfect and I don't blame the Ethiopian government for how the US and other countries may view it. The US mainly pushes the poverty and that has nothing to do with the Ethiopian government. Wonder why it doesn't show the beauty of the country as well as others? It could possibly be because no one hear will think of visiting it and seeing how the wealth is being stolen by the same people that claim they want to help it.
Zara Ray, it is nice to see that you have pride in your country people. But keep in mind that if your relatives have not been making their monthly financials contributions to the Eriteria you won't be allowed in the country.
Stop spreading lies manufactured by your dictatorship in Addis Ababa.
Thank you Aville.
Btw, I just changed my fb name (which had been the same for two years) to one in Ge'ez script.
Just two days ago I was reading about East Africa. I found it hard to believe that the literacy in Ethiopia is as low as 28%. Do you have the impression that a good portion of the population in Addis are illiterate?
My friend who travelled a lot and lived in Khartum for a year said that it was one of the safest cities he had ever lived in.
It's really sad what bad an image we are often presented with when it comes to Africa.
I have two friends from Khartoum and I've heard this a bunch of times. Khartoum is apparently one of the safest cities on the continent and safe not just by Africa standards but certainly more safe than the average America city. Image is important.
By contrast, I've heard from a couple of my friends from Egypt, as well as the two from Khartoum, that Cairo is the ugliest city on earth.

Interesting! I was just given a chance to visit either Khartoum or Cairo. I've never been to either, but I took the Cairo option, despite the problems there.
Looks like I'll have to someday try to make it to Khartoum as well! (I kinda dismissed the Khartoum choice, assuming it wouldn't be as interesting).
Most people speak English although it maybe broken English. Knowing some Amharic doesn't hurt especially when you are purchasing something.
Thanks.
