I've worked in Ghana, Nigeria and a few other places in Africa, and I would'nt reccomend either of them to anyone looking for a place to vacation.

Why not? Obviously not good places for skiing, but for just general sightseeing and rubbing shoulders with the culture, why would it be worst than Bulgaria or Australia or Panama?

Went to Uganda with a missions team from my church in 2003. Absolutely fell in love with the place and the people. I have hosted the host pastor here in McKinney each year since. He comes to report on the orphanage, school and other community works they are involved in (they support hundreds of aids orphans) and to raise support from local churches here. He only has a formal education equivalent to the 8th grade, but speaks 9 different languages and has most of the New Testament to memory and the OT outlined by chapter. One of the greatest men I've had the honor to know.

Someone with a love of place and people would do well to go to Africa, especially on a trip like this where you can do some hands on work with people there working to make a difference. If you want to lie on a beach, go to the Caribbean.
