In the early-mid '90s, I worked a lot In Zimbabwe on energy development and climate-change related projects. My last trip was in 2000 or 2001. The place had changed dramatically. All of the black professionals I worked with have either left, or managed to hitch their wagons quietly to the Mugabe regime.

In Zimbabwe, the white farmers took the land and started growing flowers on it. Flowers to export to Europe instead of food for the local market. In spite of food inflation. I've met one nice white Zimbabwean, but based on the Youtube rude, delulu comments and this other gal I met, they must have been really mean. I can't even imagine how much worse they acted before the expulsion.

Trouble in one country has a way of exporting itself to others. That is why we have a United Nations, and that is why Mugabe must be isolated. Bill Clinton stopped the violence in Yugoslavia for that very reason. I would think that all people who identify as Africans would be outraged at Mugabe, not supportive.

You should be made aware that White people did not bring Christianity to Africa. Axum (currently, Ethiopia and Eritrea) was a Christian place long before any White man had any influence. The Kingdom of Axum thrived for nearly 800 years!

You couldn't be more wrong. Europeans colonized Africa voluntarily. Africans did not colonize the Americas. They were dragged there forcibly, and held there in chains and at gunpoint. There is no comparison between the two situations at all.

Europeans did bring Christianity to other parts of Africa. You need to do more than watch a TV series to be knowledgeable about African history. Just saying.

White colonists have been In Africa since the 1600s, my family included, but certainly you are aware that it hasn't been rainbows and unicorns, and is a contentious topic to say the least.


I am an African, but I am also very aware of the havoc my ancestors wreaked on the continent. I also refuse to "whitewash" history.

It is more complicated than you are stating. Mugabe was once a very respected and revered civil rights leader. He has certainly lost his way and become a megalomaniac, but many of his supporters have been supporters since the 1950s/60s. The new supporters know that he and his wife are dangerous and corrupt, so they are both fearful and greedy. Of course I am generalizing. It's also worth noting that with extreme media censorship the world does not know what is going on in Zim. The snippets I get from my contacts are alarming.

The importation of Christianity by missionaries is a whole other topic. There are many Africans who believe that has been the downfall of the continent. The alteration of family structure and move away from family planning/condoms being a disaster too.
