Which African Countries Have Actually Used Aid For Development?

One of the biggest complaints I hear from Africans such as Dambisa Moyo and Andrew Mwenda is that the government to government aid causes African governments to be more accountable to donar countries rather than their people. This is because these African governments aren't relying on revenue from their people but the free aid money they get from wealthy nations. These African governments need to focus on implementing policies that will allow for a strong private sector in their countries then their country as whole will be less dependent on aid and politicians will be more reliant on revenue from their people who they will then be more accountable to.

Those of you who live in African countries; how about Samaritan's Purse & Feed The Children? they are 2 private charities with a good name here. Do you see good work from them? How about World Vision International?

That would be depressing if true. I just sponsored a child through World Vision in Rwanda, I hope most of the money is really getting to where it's needed.

Then I hear from others that foriegn aid has been counter-productive for African development because too many African governments have used the aid to buy arms,pay off people and stash the rest in overseas accounts.

So my question is are there any examples of African governments that have actually used foriegn aid effectively to develop their countries? If so,have these governments been able to continue to develop their countries without aid?

Plenty of solid case analysis papers on the USAID, World Bank, WHO & IMF websites demonstrating successful programs.
