Ah, a German, even more sexually repressed than the Victorians and just as sexually depraved as a result of it.

That's a ridiculous statement. We simply separate life more clearly into a private and public realm, and I appreciate that...

So how ridiculous was my statement when you confirm exactly what I said? You are appalled by public displays of human sexuality, which like no other species is pursued both for pleasure and affection, but pursue all sorts of debauchery in private. And please, I've seen European pornography and by comparison African and indigenous booty shaking looks like the dance of vestal virgins in comparison.

What you said and what I said are quite different things, I did not confirm anything you said. You were jumping to the conclusion that I am sexually repressed and depraved just because I do indeed not like public display of human sexuality. That is just utter nonsense. I don't have anything against sexuality, but in my view it is for the private realm.

Would be good to have a real African answer my question instead of some Internet-based smart alecks from the West

Perhaps you should ask your question on different African sites, with people from different countries. Africa is vast with so many different cultures, customs, religions, and so the answer may vary greatly among them.

Thank you for once again, confirming my first and second posting. Your view of sexuality is based upon YOUR Euro-centric view of sexuality, which by any standard is one of repression and suppression of sexual behavior. European colonialist with their repressed sense of sexual propriety has done enough damage to non-European cultures so let me end by suggesting that, what is repressed in Europe should stay in Europe and leave the rest of the world to go about its self-expression in peace free from your uptight judgements.

Yes, of course it is my European perspective (although of course it varies within Europe as well). However, that does not mean it is wrong, quite to the contrary, Europe came up with a lot of good things, not just bad ones - and Africa came up with a lot of bad things, not just good ones. Nor is it just a European perspective, in most of Asia it would probably also be considered vulgar.

Frankly, if you think that dancing in a sexually provocative way in public is what should be considered normal and that everyone that does not support/like it is repressed etc., then I find your view rather odd to put it mildly.

And I have still not heard from Africans themselves if it is even considered normal in Africa. Maybe it is not as normal there, either, as you as a non-African seem to think it is...

Neuling, if an African came on this site and asked if Michael Jackson's video was considered prurient in your culture, they would receive a wide variety of opinions, including your own, which you admit is pretty far out at one of the extremes. They would be left with a lot of scatter-shot input, based on the sensitivities of the respondents. And that is exactly what you can expect to get when you put the shoe on the other foot.

Personally, I am more inclined than not, to agree with you on the discomfiture I feel with the gratuitous sexualization of the entertainment media. But at the same time, I recognize that the media exists to serve the interests of its for-profit owners, not the general public, and we will be exposed to the "art" that the buying public wishes to pay for. Save your moral outrage for the blatantly financial, not the sexual.

There is no moral outrage on my part, I don't really care as long as I am not confronted with it. It just struck me when watching that music program on TV...
