I will be going to Mauritania in a few months. Just wondering if anyone has been to this country? I will be there a few days for work and have a few questions.

Yeah, but I bet it's changed a lot. When I was there, the population of the capital was about 20,000, the only cars in the streets were a couple dozen Renault 4 taxis, which a couple dozen drivers had just been taught to steer around the streets running into a minimum number of obstacles. So what I can tell you is probably not very helpful.

YouTube can be a revealing resource, search for street scenes, a lot of travelers run their cameras out the windows riding through town, and post them on YouTube. Here's a good one -- I see there are still a few Renault 4s there:

You will either love it or hate it, it depends on your own frame of mind, and only you have control over that.

That's about how I pictured it based on reports from others in my section going there.

Sh. Hamza Yusuf learnt his knowledge in large part from sheikhs in Mauritania. A spiritually blessed land.
