OP, your heart is in the right place, but I think your premise is wrong.
The US cannot publically be seen as supporting a military overthrow of the government, but that does not mean that the US does not prefer doing business with this new government rather than the one it replaced.
Who can do business with religious fanatics? The military, many of them, are Western trained and think logically.
Until the Snowden issue, which will pass, the US and Russia seem to be establishing much better relations. It would not surprise me if the US were not helping Russia to support your military behind the scenes.

Sometimes, in international politics, things are not as they would outwardly appear.

I, too, am happy for you.

What if your "democratic" country decides it would be better off without the Copts?

Kudos to the OP, and I share 100% his views.
By the way I visited Egypt in 1982 (just after Sadate's assassination). What an awesome country!
I hope the Egyption army & people will continue resisting the Moslem Brotherhood and other Islamic extremists!

Putin is a homophobic fascist. As far as the developments of a month ago, anyone who thinks the US liked the idea of the Muslim Brotherhood winning the elections after the revolution needs a serious reality check. Still, they did win the election and the only concern we had (along with Western Europe) was that Morsi was deposed in what was for all intents and purposes a military coup. The O.P. can paint the scenario any way he likes of course.

Seems to me that both sides in Egypt hate Obama and the U.S.

I have quite a few Egyptian friends and they have nothing bad to say about the US people. They are very suspicious current administration.

And Iran has shown the world the value of becoming a democratically elected Islamic nation.

It is sad. Egypt has so very much to offer the world, and would receive so very much from the world if they would become peaceful and safe. But it appears not to be. The Egyptian government has allowed its people to go hungry and do without necessities, and now Egypt has become a dangerous, hate-filled, corrupt country. They seem intent upon self destruction.
