What are some emerging tourist destinations on the second largest continent? Post a description/pictures of tourist sites that are still relatively unknown. Here's one from Nigeria, the Idanre Hills, which were recently added to the Unesco list of world heritage sites.

Idanre Hills:

Oke Idanre hill consists of high plain with spectacular valleys interspersed with inselbergs of about 3,000 ft above sea level. Its physical attributes include Owa's Palace, Shrines, Old Court, Belfry, Agbooogun foot print, thunder water (Omi Aopara) and burial mounds and grounds.
It also has diverse and variegated eco-systems of flora and fauna. Oke Idanre contains very important bio-physical and land form features whose interaction with the physical features created an enduring cultural landscape within the setting.

Idanre hill is one of the most awesome and beautiful natural landscapes in Ondo State and Nigeria. Added to its beauty which fires human curiosity is the fact that the entire people of Idanre lived on these boulders for almost a millennium.

We lived in Uganda for two years and while there our family came to visit and we used this safari company for a couple of weeks. There are lots of other companies that do this as well. Uganda has quite a few upper end lodges in the midst of beautiful scenery and wildlife and they are building new ones all the time. The scenery and the safaris are amazing and the people of Uganda are very friendly.

Another Unesco World Heritage site -- Ganvié, in the Republic of Benin, the largest collection of lake dwellings in Africa. 20,000 people call Ganvié’s stilt supported dwellings home. This amazing city, in the middle of lake Nokoué, is not a recent construct however.

Ganvié is up to five hundred years old. Sometimes called the “Venice of Africa”, and just like the famous city in Italy, its first inhabitants set up their homes there out of sheer necessity.

The village was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List on October 31, 1996 in the Cultural category.
