I could name most of them, like 90% probably (too lazy at the moment to take the test). I've taken that test a few times in the past. The first time I ever did it though I was really bad, like 20-30%.

I guess I need to take a remedial course on African Geography. I was 100% sure of S. Africa and Egypt. How many of the African countries have the same name they had fifty years ago? That would be interesting.

Most have the same name they had in 1964. A few have changed:

South Sudan is a newly formed country, for example.

Namibia was officially known as Southwest Africa, but there was already a movement for Namibian independence in that era.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo had the same name, but was Zaire shortly thereafter for a time.

Equatorial Guinea was Spanish Guinea.

Guinea-Bissau was Portuguese Guinea.

Zambia was renamed Zambia in 1964, having previously been Northern Rhodesia.

Zimbabwe was Southern Rhodesia.

Botswana was Bechuanaland.

Malawi was renamed Malawi in 1964, having previously been Nyasaland.

Lesotho was Besutoland.

That pretty much covers the changes.

Also:

Western Sahara was still a Spanish colony.

Djibouti (then known as French Somaliland) was still a French colony.

Eritrea hadn't broken away from Ethiopia yet.
