This is alarming.

The news of the agreement to set up the first Chinese military airbase in
Africa comes amid increasing bilateral cooperation between Zimbabwe and China –
notably in mining, agriculture and preferential trade. China is the only country
exempted from the indigenisation laws which force all foreign investors to cede
51% of their shareholding to carefully selected indigenous Zimbabweans.

“Military officials in Zimbabwe said details of the airbase plan were sketchy
and mostly classified due to the veil of secrecy around President Robert
Mugabe’s relationship with China’s Red Army. A sizeable number of Chinese troops
are reported to have their boots on the ground in the Marange diamond fields,
which have since been cordoned off as a high level security zone,” said the
publication.

Comrade Bob forced Zimplat (a platinum mining and refining company) to comply with indigenisation rules and he and Gideon Gono have long been suspected of diverting revenue from diamonds into Swiss bank accounts and personal luxuries. I have no doubt these troops will be used to arrest and harass political opponents before the next election.

I don't think it is a bad idea,France has military bases in Africa (Senegal,Ivory Coast,CAR,Mali,Tchad,Djibouti,Gabon).

So i don't see anything wrong at all,chinese need to defend its economic interests too,just like every other power.

If China invest billions of dollars in Africa,China has the right to protect its investments.

Why would France,Britain or Russia have the right to have military bases in Africa and not China ?

Corruption is everywhere on the planet,starting with european countries,so Africa did not invent corruption nor has the monopoly of corruption

Africans didn't have anything TO corrupt. You're blaming whites for corruption? Are you serious? Europeans used exploitation, not corruption. Survival of the fittest. The best will win always.

True it happens all over the world. While no one said Africa invented corruption, how many country leaders and their cronies are not corrupt in Africa? It seem to me that's been a major problem on the continent. Some good points made in this article reference poor governance.

Why I don't like the idea of a base in Africa, because I don't believe China cares a bit about the African people and their record regarding Human Rights is pitiful. I'm critical of the states policies and it's leaders, but I've never heard you say anything positive about the west. And don't you live in the states?
