I have never been there, but Antananarivo really looks like a very unique city.

A couple of years ago Madagascar was really disrupted because of political turmoil. Has that situation settled down? But yes, it does look like a really unique place with a unique culture. I'd like to check it out too.

2009, I think...

I keep reading about it, and it sounds like that has settled down....but quite a few reports of pickpockets and such though....

FABULOUS music scene! Check out some of the Madagascar music C-D's available through Amazon. Both traditional and contemporary music is very nice. You can't go wrong with it.
