Vice President of Zambia the last three years, and now the 'acting president' since the President just died.

Does Zambia have elections every four years, modeled after the U.S.? If so, I guess it's an election year while he's 'acting president'?

Elections will be held on January 20th, 2015. Dr. Scott can't run for president as his parents were not born in Zambia, there is a clause in the constitution reference this issue. Now due to the infighting and power struggle he has been suspended from the party but will carry on as interim leader. That's pretty weird I think. He was suspended for "unconstitutional conduct and for abrogating the party constitution", and was also accused of influencing the news media to further his cause. He said the president had kept him on even though there were people that wanted him removed from the VP post, so it seems that some folks don't like him at all. They can't even agree on how they should choose the party’s candidate for president, so expect a lot more fights before it's over. I hope they get an honest leader, but they are very hard to come by.

Africas first white president in 20 years [?]

The thread title seems to assume that the leaders of North African countries, who are of Arab origin, are not "white."

I wonder about that.

I'm OK, how are you? He was appointed to that position by the late president. Here's a short article speaking of that, a few tweets, and a bit of interesting history on the constitutional amendment. The 2nd article speaks of his life in Zambia and being interim president. Apparently one of the candidates running for the presidency is a relative of Sata, I think he is or was a finance administrator or something like that.

Kev, You might ask Scott about that. From a Telegraph article 29 October, "I am the acting president at the moment. It has just been passed by cabinet," he said. This made him Africa's first white president of a democratic government ever "except maybe the Venetians in the days when they ran the world," he added.

Was he the OP who selected the subject title?

The fact that Scott may want to claim this distinction doesn't make it a fact to be quoted without question.

Don't forget that most threads started in this forum are from US-based people. US Americans have quite a unique view on these things, though most are not aware how unique it is.
