I have become very interested in the Egyptian culture. I really want to visit this country in the next couple of years and would like to be able to have simple conversations in their language or at least be able to ask questions in Arabic. I think this is the best way to get the full experience of the country.

I took a couple spanish classes in school but of course if you don't use it, you lose it. So this would actually be my second language. I have read that this is a very difficult language to learn so this is where my question comes into play.

For the people who learned the language on their own time and at home. What programs did you find to be the best? Is Rocket Language a good place to start? Is Rosetta Stone's program any good? Should I try to find some evening classes?

Thanks!

Years ago I learned some Egyptian Arabic using a Conversa-Phone Institute self-instruction cassette course. I still remember a few phrases.

Egyptian Arabic is quite different, it is only spoken in Egypt and Northern Sudan.
There are other programs like linguistic trips to the country itself, spending some time learning the language and discovering the country.
It is certainly more expensive but more efficient.
Some other countries offer similar programs like Morocco and Jordan.
