Mozambique. I've never been to Africa and don't know much about it, but I choose Mozambique for several reasons: it seems the most interesting location, straddling South Africa to the south, and Kenya and the birthplace of mankind to the north. It's got a cool name. And also, that song by Bruce Cockburn "The Mines of Mozambique".

I may be misinformed, but I think Western Africa is poorer and dirtier. It seems Africa gets more pleasant as you move South and eastward. So Mozambique it is.

Mozambique. All the others seem very hostile towards white people.

I chose Mozambique just because years ago I read an article about their country trying to attract more tourists (especially with beach resorts) and offering really good deals to foreign visitors. The descriptions and photos made me want to see what's going on there because it looks a lot better than I assumed. Plus at the time I saw this article I had been spending time off and on in Portugal and I liked how such an exotic place had such a beautiful and familiar language.

I chose Cape Verde and Sao Tome. Islands interest me, even though I've never been on one.

Angola

1. Economically VERY important due to huge amounts of petroleum.

2. Rich History - the capital of the Kongo Kingdom was in Angola!

3. Diverse landscapes - Rainforests in the north and Cabinda, savanna, mountains, etc.
