List of countries by intentional homicide rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think, generally, South Africa, consistently gets recognized as the murder capital of Africa. But, looking up the stats, it looks like the small tiny RURAL nation-states of Lesotho & Swaziland are higher.

I guess what surprises me is that these two countries are 1) VERY RURAL, and 2) small.

What would account for a higher murder rate in them then in say South Africa?

(Just to balance this out, there are countries in Africa, like MALAWI where it is almost non-existent, and on a level of say Canada. Only pointing this out, so people will not focus on an Africa/Crime topic, and focus more on the specifics of Lesotho & Swaziland's high rates).

I used that list many times but not sure how accurate it is, when Sierra Leone has a murder rate comparable to Norway, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Greece and Romania
