...instead of a continent.

Africa is 11.6 million square miles in area;

divided into 47 independent nations;

divided into 3,000 distinct ethnic grounds and 2,000 language families;

and most importantly, indigenous Africans are the most genetically diverse population on earth;

which includes sub-Saharan Africa which may be comprised of as many as 32 distinct genetic families.

Can Stop Discussing Africa As If It Where A Country...
Hate to be a Nazi Grammar guy...(but you should write "Can WE stop discussing Africa as if it WERE a country?")

Usually I ignore other's grammar, but I do believe one condescending lecture deserves another condescending lecture.

I agree. Many people do not realise the size (The True Size of Africa) of Africa or its diversity.

There are many different countries, languages, economies, religions, ethnicities, races, history, etc within "Africa" that it is very weird this "African" talking as if it was a single town or homogeneous community.

I agree with this post. I see it happen way too often in this day and age where people should clearly know better. I don't expect people to know about every country in Africa. At the very least it'd be nice for people to understand that it's incredibly diverse within a single country in Africa, let alone across the entire continent.

This is readily apparent from the discussions on City-Data, that remind me a cover of The New Yorker magazine and this is particularly true when the discussion if filled with racial overtones... there are these countries in north African and then there is this sub-saharan Africa that's this homogeneous land of dark people.
