South-African Americans

African-American is the PC term for Black Americans. Nigerians, Algerians, Congolese, etc. are not Black Americans and thus not African-Americans.

Their connection to Asia is very remote, and so no longer belong to am East Asia socio cultural construct.

So they cannot be seen as (East) Asian American.

What is fallacious is the term "Asian American", given that there is now a huge South Asian population, who have no more in common with East Asians than they do with sub Saharan Africans.

It should be East Asian American, and South Asian American. if folks wish to use that umbrella term.

There should be no such thing as an "African American" unless he/she is an African immigrant that moved to America. If you are born in America then you are an American! Being American is a nationality, not a race of people.

There are several odd terms regarding ethnicity and race, but they are established so people keep using them, unfortunately.
For instance the meaning of anti-Semitic, which only refers to Jews, who however are only a tiny fraction of all Semites, with the vast majority being Arabs.

To me African-American somehow refers to blacks whose ancestors got to the US a long time ago, basically during the times of slavery. Africans emigrating to the US today are not African-Americans in my view, although it sounds odd

No. African-American doesn't refer to being born on the continent of Africa. It refers to what we consider the Black ethnic group.

Is a white person born in Asia who moves to America "Asian American"? No because the person wasn't Asian to begin with.

Following your logic there is no such thing as a Jew in America because they're not Jews, they're "Americans". Jerry Seinfield isn't Jewish, he's American. Does that make sense?
