An african country with a very own language and writing system, plus an ancient form of Christianity. In this sense it's unique amongst other african countries.
I am wondering where all the people live since 5 million in and around Addis Ababa but no other large cities (+1 million metro) the next 5 cities combine for roughly 1.1 million people, yet the country has 90 million+ people? This question has been keeping me up at night for years are they all rural? are the stats off?
All geographical questions aside as previously mentioned ancient society, very diverse people wise and climate wise also.
I am friends with quite a few people of Ethiopian and Eritrean origin. The Washington DC area has an abundance of people of these nationalities. Great culture and food.
Went to an Ethiopian wedding in DC a couple years ago. Great experience.

I've heard mostly rural. I've been reading quite a few blogs from bicyclists who do things such as taking a bike across Africa. I find it so interesting that so many of these blogs have stories of young kids chasing them with rocks. It just makes me think that the rural areas must be more populated than we think, because I don't readily think of groups of kids hanging out everywhere in rural areas.
But, in general, it's an interesting question, I've also wondered how they have that many spread around like that as well. The other thing is Ethiopia is probably MUCH larger than it looks on a map. All of Africa is.
Green and pleasant highlands, Chinese investment, interesting food, Rastafarianism, ancient Christian tradition. Very different from Somalis, don't know what my fellow Londoner is talking about.
