This is interesting:

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-is-average-iq-higher-in-some-places/
"So far, the evidence suggests that infectious disease is a primary cause of the global variation in human intelligence. Since this is a developmental cause, rather than a genetic one, it’s good news for anyone who is interested in reducing global inequality associated with IQ. If the primary factors were genetic, as some have suggested, IQ would be very difficult to change."

What's also interesting is how the authors relate IQ to infectious disease rates in the US:
"The nation we chose was the United States. Average IQ varies in the states. (Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont are at the high end, for example; California, Louisiana, and Mississippi are near the low end.) Again, infectious disease was an excellent predictor of average state IQ. The states with the five lowest average IQ all have higher levels of infectious disease than the states with the five highest average IQ, and the relationship was good across all of the states in between."

In a related matter:
US-based African immigrants more educated - University World News

"Although the foreign-born population from Africa in the US is small relative to other foreign-born groups, a higher proportion of Africans are graduates than the overall foreign-born population and their numbers have grown rapidly over the past 40 years."

Regarding notions of success, IQ, educational achievement and national origin, it's not about race, folks:
What Drives Success?
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/26/op...cess.html?_r=0"Merely stating the fact that certain groups do better than others — as measured by income, test scores and so on — is enough to provoke a firestorm in America today, and even charges of racism. The irony is that the facts actually debunk racial stereotypes.

There are some black and Hispanic groups in America that far outperform some white and Asian groups. Immigrants from many West Indian and African countries, such as Jamaica, Ghana, and Haiti, are climbing America’s higher education ladder, but perhaps the most prominent are Nigerians. Nigerians make up less than 1 percent of the black population in the United States, yet in 2013 nearly one-quarter of the black students at Harvard Business School were of Nigerian ancestry; over a fourth of Nigerian-Americans have a graduate or professional degree, as compared with only about 11 percent of whites."

No, it's not at all about one's race. Here's another tidbit:

Interesting the triple package which consists of a (superiority complex, insecurity and impulse control). I've heard of this before the three characteristics that propel certain immigrant groups to succeed. Unfortunately the advantage only lasts two generations as groups integrate and acculturate into American society.

IQ tests are not meaningless.

I happen to agree that the average African would probably have an below average IQ but that has absolutely nothing to do with race or ethnicity. The reality is poor nutrition, childhood diseases, more difficult pregnancies, and lack of proper water and sanitation DOES effect the development of both the brain functionality, problem solving and memory. This is no different than alcohol/drug/smoking intake during pregnancy can cause developmental delays and/or fetal alcohol syndrome.

These stats are indisputable which invariably are more common in low income countries and even areas of countries. It, however, has absolutely no relation to race, sex, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.

So if Africa is going to find an African solution to it's problems are bring itself up to Western standards of living and qualities of life without using the Western models then I'm all ears.

What exactly is this "made in Africa" solution that no other region on the planet seems to have discovered?

I don't think it's that simple. During the slave trading era there was no "capitalism". Europeans at that time practiced Mercantilism which had differences from the capitalism that Adam Smith promoted.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercantilism

As a matter of fact the father of capitalism,Adam Smith, was against both slavery and colonialism:

Quote:
Smith believed that the best economy was one in which each individuals act freely with no government interference. The idea was that having complete freedom created competition, which would then keep prices down while product quality remained high. Slavery created an inefficient market in that slave owners were forced to purchase and maintain slaves year after year since slaves had a very high mortality rate. The cost of purchasing slaves was then passed on to the common consumer. This cost could be avoided by switching to a wage-labor economy and providing decent working conditions for blacks. For example, it would be cheaper to pay blacks a low wage and not provide them with food, housing, or clothing than to continually buy new slaves and provide for them.

Adam Smith's Take

It is not racism, it is evolution.

Humans have evolved differently, THAT IS A FACT. I would not write off all Africans, there are some smart ones.

Despite all your comments, I still don't see you coming up with any ways Africa could raise it's economies, standard of living, governance, and quality of life except following the Western model? The advancement of human rights, proper governance, low violence rates, free thought and expression, and both high education and enlightenment are at the very core of the Western economies. Such things are not the result of development but rather the cause of it.

So what is your African alternative?
